Cuba- Black and White

Most Cuba photographers are now using digital cameras. This in spite of the paucity of decent computers and printing facilities. There are computers at the Fototeca and there are also both commercial print shops as some fortunate enough to have a printer. Printers are relatively difficult to come by and are tightly regulated by the government. On our last trip we carried a small printer and it required a lot of special forms to bring it in. Since so much wonderful photography has been done there in black and white, I started paying around with my images and Silver Efex. I really liked the results in some of them. They reminded me of some antique images of Tito Alvarez, Cuban photographer in the 50s and 60s, that I had printed for an exhibition several years ago.

Marché de Vanves

Encountered this convivial Frenchman at the Marché de Vanves in Paris one Saturday morning. This is my favorite flea market. It has a lot of very high quality fleas for sale, music, and food. Everyone is having fun. It is small and manageable, lots of interesting people, and an occasional bargain that just can’t be passed up.
