I find that while I am not necessarily attracted to completely abstract images, I do enjoy photographing things that contain several abstract elements. These fragments of images often come from the interplay of light and texture and there effect on the scene being photographed. When I stop and think of the things I like to search out and photograph old buildings, derelict vehicles, stuff left behind or thrown away. I have been several times to Duke Gardens with friends who do beautiful photographs of flowers and other plants; I discover that I am more interested in the people, the rocks, benches and shadows.

My grandfather used to tell me that a friend had said to him, “Jack, if everyone liked the same thing, everybody would want my Maudey.”

To this, my granddaddy Jack answered, “If everyone liked the same thing nobody would have her!”
